FARM DIARY

BARN OWL

In spring 1999 we put a tea chest on the beams of a traditional farm building hoping to encourage barn owls to nest. Nothing used the tea chest in 1999, however, since the year 2000 owls have nested and reared young each year. The barn borders a traditionally managed hay meadow which provides plenty of habitat for small mammals, the Barn Owls main food source.
